November Den Meeting Followup

Dear Tiger Cub Parents,

Thanks again to Luke J. (Luke's dad) for organizing a great den meeting!  We all had a blast making our leaf rubbings and conducting our Hot Wheels science experiments.  Before our next den meeting, everyone should complete the "Observing the Weather" family activity (Achievement 5F) for the "Let's Go Outdoors" unit in the Tiger Handbook.

We also had a great Go See It to the UofL ice hockey game this past Saturday (Achievement 5G), where we watched the Cards pull off an exciting 6-5 win in a shootout over Wright State.  Thanks to Elizabeth R. (Andy's mom) for planning that for us!

We have now completed three of the five units in the Tiger Handbook and are more than half way to earning our Tiger Cub badges!  If you have not yet completed all of the achievements in Units 1, 3 and 5, you might want to take some time over the Thanksgiving break to catch up with the rest of the den.  Any of the achievements that you may have missed can be made up on your own fairly quickly and easily.  Just follow the instructions in the handbook.

Please remember that our next Pack Meeting is this Wednesday, November 23rd, at 7:00 PM in Visitation Hall.  LG&E will be setting up their "Safety City," and we will be awarding belt loops to everyone who gave me their list.

Here are some other important dates to put on your calendar:
  • Dec 6: Den Meeting (Visitation Hall) 7:00 PM - Chip S. (Reece)
  • Dec 10: Bell Ringing (Kroger across from Summit) 12:00 PM
  • Dec 11: Go See It (Worthington Fire Dept @ Norton Commons) 1:00 PM - Shaneh R. (Christopher)
  • Dec 14: Pack Meeting & Chili Cook-off (Visitation Hall) 7:00 PM
I'll see you all at the Pack Meeting on Wednesday!

November 19 - Go See It: UofL Ice Hockey (Alpine Ice Arena)

Dear Tiger Cub Parents,

This month's go see it activity will be to go to a UofL Ice Hockey game.  I know I had talked with some parents about seeing a high school (or even a St. Albert's) basketball game, but most of those do not start until December.  This event sounds like a lot of fun.

It will be next Saturday, November 19th, at 5:45pm at Alpine Ice Arena on Gardiner Lane.  The teams start to warm up around 5:30, so it is recommended to arrive by 5:20.  Children 12 and under are free (so please feel welcome to bring siblings) and the cost for adults is $4.00.  (This price is discounted $1.00 for our group.)  I need to have a number of how many are going by Tuesday about 5:00pm to ensure that all of our group can sit together.  If you have any questions, please email or call me.

Andy is looking forward to this, and I hope you all can go!

Thanks,
Elizabeth R. (Andy's mom)

Belt Loops!

If your boys are like mine, they're very anxious to get some of those belt loops that they keep hearing about and seeing the older scouts wearing.  Well, they will finally get their chance at the November pack meeting (Wednesday, November 23 at 7:00 PM in Visitation Hall)!

The Pack has decided to pay for five (5) belt loops for every cubscout each year they are in the pack.  So, if they continue on to be Wolf Scouts and Bear Scouts, they will have the opportunity to earn 15 belt loops (paid for by the Pack).

There is a link on the Den website to the belt loop requirements.  All of the requirements should be listed there (except for the archery and bb-gun shooting belt loops, which can only be earned at a Council sponsored camp or JamboRama).

There is no paperwork for you to fill out.  Simply look over the list of belt loops and their requirements.  Then send me an e-mail of up to 5 belt loops that your son has earned and would like to receive at the November pack meeting.

If they haven't earned a total of 5 belt loops yet, or if you would rather they not get their allotment for the year all at one time, we'll hand them out again at another pack meeting in the Spring.

If they've earned more than 5 belt loops already, help them narrow their list down to the 5 they really want to receive first.  If you want them to receive more than 5 in a single year, you can reimburse the pack for the cost of the additional belt loops, and we'll award them in the Spring.  But remember, they can probably only fit so many loops on their belts, and it might be a good idea to give them something to look forward to earning over the next two years they're in scouts.

So, please send me your list of up to 5 belt loops as soon as you can (I'll have to get them ordered from the Scout Store).  And if you have any questions, please let me know.

November 15 - Den Meeting

Dear Tiger Cub Parents,

Our next den meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 PM in Hendrick's HallThis is the basement of the kindergarten building.  Sorry to keep moving the meeting around, but Visitation Hall (Cafeteria) is booked that night.  We will continue to try to reserve Visitation Hall for any upcoming meetings at St. Albert's, so that we have more room to spread out.  Please continue to check the website for details on upcoming meetings.

Luke J. (Luke's dad) will be planning this meeting.  We will be making leaf rubbings (Achievement 5D), so please bring a couple of leaves with you to the meeting!  Luke also says he has some science experiments planned for us, if we have time, so the boys can work on their science belt loops.

Also, please try to complete the Unit 3: "Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe" family activities by planning and practicing a family fire drill and talking about what to do if your Tiger Cub ever becomes lost or separated from his family (Achievements 3Fa and 3Fb).  Remember to bring your Tiger Handbooks to this and every den meeting, so that I can sign off on any of the achievements you've completed with your son and give him the beads for his totem.

See you all on the 15th!
