December 8 - Go See It: Lyndon Fire Station 1

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

First, I want to thank Michelle B. (Aidens' aunt) for leading the Food Group activity at our last den meeting.  Hopefully, we all learned how to be healthy eaters!  To finish Chapter 3 "Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe" in the Tiger Handbook, please complete the family activities (Achievements 3Fa and 3Fb) on your own by planning and practicing a family fire drill and talking about what to do if your child ever becomes lost or separated.

Our next activity will be a Go See It to the Lyndon Fire Station 1 on Saturday, December 8, at 1:00 PM.  The station is located at 8126 New LaGrange Road.  This will be Achievement 2G in Chapter 2 "Where I Live."

Here are some other activities to put on your busy December calendar:

December 12 - Pack Meeting, Visitation Hall, 7:00PM

December 15 - Pinewood Derby Make-It Take-It, Visitation Hall, 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon
Come with your scout during this time to design, cut out, sand, drill & weigh your Pinewood Derby cars.  If this is your first Pinewood Derby, there will be parent volunteers there to help you get your cars started and maybe even offer a few racing hints.  If this is not your first derby, you may want to come just to use the tools (band saw, belt sander, etc).

December 15 - Salvation Army Bell Ringing, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

November 26 - Den Meeting

 Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

This is a reminder that our next den meeting is tomorrow, Monday, November 26, at 6:30 PM in the Visitation Hall (cafeteria). Please note the change in time (we voted on starting a half hour earlier at the last meeting) and the change in location. The basement of the kindergarten building is being used for Santa's Secret Workshop this week at school, so our meeting has been moved to the cafeteria.

Also, I was reminded that scout dues for next year are due December 1. Please bring a check made payable to Pack 327 in the amount of $35 for 2013 dues.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Otherwise I'll see you all at the meeting!

November 17 - Go See It: UofL Ice Hockey

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

This is a reminder that our November Go See It is tomorrow, November 17, at 4:00 PM.  We will be going to watch the UofL Ice Hockey team take on Notre Dame at the Iceland Sports Complex, located at 1701 Ups Drive.  This is Achievement 3G in the "Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe" chapter of the Tiger Handbook.

The cost of the game is only $5 per adult (children under 12 are free), so bring the whole family!  If you've never been to an ice hockey game before, please keep in mind that you will be sitting relatively close (probably on metal bleachers) to a very large sheet of ice - it's gonna be cold!  So, be sure to bring a coat and gloves to wear for the game, no matter what the weather may be outside.

In order that we may sit together as a group, please arrive early - NO LATER THAN 3:45 PM.

And don't forget, our next den meeting will be on Monday, November 26, at 6:30 PM.

November 14 - Pack Meeting: Chili Cook Off

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

This is a reminder that we will have our November Pack Meeting this Wednesday, November 14, at 7:00 PM in Visitation Hall (cafeteria).  The St. Xavier eXpress improv troupe will be on hand to entertain us, and we will be having our annual chili cook off.

The Chili Cook Off is less of a cook off and more of a put luck supper.  Just bring your best pot of chili to share with the rest of the pack.  Also, please bring a 2 liter soft drink to share.  Plates, cups and utensils will be provided, but please do bring a serving spoon or ladle for your chili.  You may also want to bring along whatever condiments you like to serve your chili with (noodles, rice, crackers, cheese, hot sauce, etc.).  Lastly, since there are not enough electrical outlets to go around, don't expect to be able to plug in your slow cooker - bring your chili already heated and ready to serve.

Not a much of a chili chef?  Come anyway!  You do not have to bring chili to attend this meeting.

November 10 - Scouting For Food

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

This Saturday, November 10, our den will be helping the rest of Pack 327 distribute Scouting For Food fliers in the neighborhood around St. Albert's.  We will meet at Hendricks Hall (kindergarten building) at 9:00 AM to get our maps and fliers and to split up into small groups.

In the fall of each year, the Boy Scouts of America go from house to house in neighborhoods all over the country collecting food items for those in need.  It is the job of our Cub Scout Pack to distribute the fliers, and the Boy Scout Troop 327 will pick up the donated items a week later.

This is an important, high-visibility community service project, so I hope you all will be able to participate.  After we finish distributing the fliers and return to St. Albert's, the popcorn orders should be ready for pickup.
