October 24 - Pack Meeting: Trunk or Treat

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

This is a reminder that we will be having our October Pack Meeting this Wednesday, October 24, at 6:30 PM in Visitation Hall (the cafeteria).  This is one of my favorite pack meetings of the year, so I hope you will all be able to make it.  It will be fun for the whole family!

First, and most important, every Tiger Cub has earned his Bobcat Badge, and we will be handing them out at the meeting.

We will also have a performance by the St. Xavier High School eXpress improv troupe, which the kids all seem to really love.

We will also have a pumpkin decorating contest with prizes.  So, decorate your pumpkin at home and bring it along to the meeting to enter in the contest.

And don't forget that popcorn orders are due at this meeting meeting.  Please bring them with you, and turn them in to Alex Kuprion, Cubmaster.  All checks should be made payable to Pack 327.

Finally, we will end the night with Trunk or Treating in the parking lot outside of Visitation Hall (on the Church side).  So, the kids should come in their Halloween costume and bring something to collect their candy with, and parents should bring some candy to hand out to all the trunk or treaters.  (Most families will decorate their trunk or the back of their car in a Halloween theme - so use your imagination and have fun!)

See you all on Wednesday!

October 19-21 - Pack Camp Out

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

First, I want to thank Brian C. (Elliott's dad) for organizing our hike last Sunday.  The weather finally decided to cooperate, and we all had a fun, and thankfully dry, time!  If you have never been to the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, I suggest you check it out.  They have some really nice hiking trails!  If you were not able to make it to the Go See It, you can make up Achievement 5G on your own by taking a hike in a local park or even a walk around your neighborhood.

Next, I want to remind you that this weekend will be Pack 327's Fall Camp Out at Camp Crooked Creek in the Harry S. Frazier Scout Reservation.  The Scout Reservation is located at 950 Terry Drive in Shepherdsville, KY.  Alex Kuprion, our Cubmaster, will be heading down Friday after school to set up our campsite.  You may camp out Friday night, Saturday night, or both nights.

I will be camping with my three scouts on Saturday night.  We will be meeting some other scout families in St. Albert's parking lot at 10:30 AM, if you'd like to follow us down there.  If you do want to caravan with us from St. Albert, please let me know with a reply to this e-mail.

You will need to provide your own tent and sleeping supplies, along with your own food and drinks (and anything you might need to prepare your food with).  There will be a camp fire in the evening.  Here's a list of some other things you might not want to forget:
  • Camp chairs
  • Flashlights
  • Extra clothes
  • Fishing pole & tackle (there is a fishing pond)
  • Towel (where there is water, there will be wet scouts)
  • Extra clothes
  • Outdoor games/activities/sporting equipment
  • Scout uniform shirt (we may have a flag retirement ceremony after sundown)
  • Knit hat & gloves (expect temperatures in the 50s or even the 40s at night)
You will be able to park and unpack your car at the campsite, so speaking from experience, it is much better to have too much than not enough!

If you have any questions, please let me know.  I hope to see you all there!

October 14 - Go See It: Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve

Dear Tiger Cub Akelas,

Our next Go See It is this Sunday, October 14, at 1:30 PM.  Brian C. (Elliott's dad) will be leading us on a hike (Achievement 5G) at the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, located at 12501 Harmony Landing Road, Goshen, KY 40026.  We'll meet up near the Nature Center there.

A special thanks to Julia R. and Anthony for leading the leaf rubbing (Achievement 5D) and weather observation (Achievement 5F) activities at our last den meeting.  If you were not able to attend the meeting, please try to make up these achievements in Chapter 5 of the Tiger Handbook before our November den meeting.

Please don't forget that our next pack meeting will be on Wednesday, October 24, at 6:30 PM in Visitation Hall (cafeteria).  Since all of our tiger cubs will be receiving their Bobcat Badge, this is an important pack meeting not to miss!  We will also have the eXpress improv troupe from St. Xavier High School, and the kids will be receiving prizes for the best Halloween costumes and the best decorated pumpkins.  We'll end the meeting with the ever-popular Trunk or Treat in the parking lot!

Finally, keep selling that popcorn!  Order forms are due at the October 24th pack meeting.  (If you did not receive your order forms already, I will have them at the hike on Sunday.)  And remember, if you sell $350 or more, you will not have to pay your $35 pack dues.

See you all on Sunday!

October 8 - Den Meeting

Dear Tiger Cub Parents,

Thank you to everyone who came to our first Go See It at the downtown library.  We had a great time, and I think we all probably learned some new things about the library that we didn't know before.  Many thanks to Julia R. (Anthony's mom) for organizing our visit!  If you were not able to join us, you can make up Achievement 1G on your own by visiting a library, museum or historical site, or by visiting with an older person in your family or community, to discover how life may have been different many years ago (see page 42 in the Tiger Handbook).

Our next Den Meeting will be this coming Monday, October 8th, at 7:00 PM in the basement of Hendricks Hall (kindergarten building).  Julia R. (Anthony's mom) will be leading our activity, Achievement 5D: Make a Leaf Rubbing.  Please bring along a couple of leaves with you to the meeting.

Before the meeting, please try to complete the family activity in the "Making My Family Special" chapter of the Tiger Handbook (Achievement 1F) by completing a chore together.  See page 39 for more information.

Our next Go See It will will be on Sunday, October 14th.  Brian C. (Elliott's dad) will be organizing a hike for us.  More information will be provided as the details are finalized.

Here are some more dates that you may want to put on your calendar.  We'll discuss these at the den meeting on Monday:

October 19-21 - Pack Campout at Camp Crooked Creek

October 24 - Pack Meeting 6:30 - 8:00 PM; Popcorn orders due (I'll pass out the order forms at the den meeting.)

See you all on Monday!
